Simi Valley is a home to two historical landmarks of
California - Grandma Prisbrey's Bottle Village, a fanciful village of shrines,
walkways, sculptures and buildings from recycled items and discards from the
local dump and Rancho Simi (Simi Adobe-Strathearn House), one of the land grants
in California by the Spanish government. It is also home to the presidential
library of Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th President of the United States.

also ranks high on the list of the most desirable residential neighborhoods. The
city has a reputation of being a business-friendly city. It is vulnerable to
earthquakes as the city is surrounded by earthquake faults and has maintained a
number of parks and open spaces in order to preserve its small-town atmosphere.
The city operates its own police department and has a
contract with the Ventura County Fire Department to provide fire protection
services.
Demographic Information
The City of Simi Valley is located in the Southeast Ventura
County, California adjacent to the northwestern perimeter of the San Fernando
Valley, 37 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. It is located at 34°16'16"
North, 118°44'22" West (34.271078, -118.739428) with an elevation of 700 - 1,000
feet (210 - 300 m) above sea level. According to the United States Census
Bureau, the city has a total area of 102.1 km² (39.4 mi²). As of the census of
2000, there were 111,351 people, 36,421 households, and 28,954 families residing
in the city. The population density is 1,097.3/km². The city is located 3 miles
(4.83 km) north of the city of Los Angeles' Border community of Chatsworth and
40 miles (64.4 km) from Downtown Los Angeles. It borders the Santa Susana
Mountains to the north and Simi Hills to the east and south. Santa Susana Pass
connects the city to the nearby San Fernando Valley.
